Terms of Use

These terms apply to your use of Shajra, the family-tree service provided by 313bits at shajra.313bits.com and 313bits.com. By creating an account or using Shajra you agree to them.

1. Your account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Keep your password safe; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used it.

2. Family trees and admins

The person who creates a family tree is its admin. Admins decide who can join, can make other members admins, choose a next of kin, link the tree with other trees, export the tree and manage its subscription. If every admin is marked as deceased in the tree, or no admin has been active for the period shown in the app, a member may take over as admin as described in the app.

3. Your content

You keep ownership of the information and photos you add. You give us permission to store and display that content to the members of the family trees you add it to, as needed to run the service. Only add information you have the right to share, and be thoughtful when adding details about living relatives — respect their wishes if they ask you to change or remove something. Each person can lock their own profile.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use Shajra to:

• add false, abusive, hateful or harassing content about anyone;
• upload content you do not have the right to share, or content that is illegal or sexually explicit;
• try to access family trees you have not been approved for, or interfere with the service or other users;
• use the service to send spam or collect other people's information.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

5. Advertising and Shajra Plus

Shajra is free and shows ads. A family's admin can buy Shajra Plus to remove ads for every member of that family. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel at any time from the Family page, and the plan stays active until the end of the paid period. Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are shown before you pay.

6. Availability and backups

We work to keep Shajra available and back it up daily, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. We encourage admins to keep an exported copy of their family tree.

7. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from your Account page. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. If we ever stop offering Shajra, we will give reasonable notice so admins can export their trees.

8. Disclaimer and liability

Shajra is provided “as is”. Relation names are worked out automatically from the information entered and may not match every family's custom. To the extent allowed by law, 313bits is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for content added by users.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. If we make significant changes we will let users know in the app; continuing to use Shajra after that means you accept the new terms.
